Soldier Poet

You taught me of your sorrow

One lonely night

As I read your poetry

Upon this site

You have served your country well

with all of your might

And fought for our protection

many a heart wrenching fight

Your soul has been tormented

from the things you have seen

and the actions you had to take

have left your soul unseamed

Life became death

with the touch of a hand

and your soul seemed to shatter

across the war torn land

You are an American soldier

in the War you were chosen to stay

serving your country beyond the call

in the most Courageous way

Solace has become a pen

With paper close at hand

Words help you work through the pain

of the sight of the inhumane

My words could never be enough

to thank you for what you have done

prayers are offered up above

for your darkness to turn toward the Sun

May the words you write… heal your soul

and serve to find Greatness within

restoring the life you once knew

with sight of clear focus again

And if that life can never return

as you once seemed to know it

May you be blessed with wisdom to fight the good fight,

As the Brave Soldier Poet!

*****

I wrote this poem as a tribute to a young poet I met. His poetry enlightened me to the plight many soldiers face when they come home from war.  As we strive for a way to live in harmony and peace, may we honor the Soldiers who protect and defend Freedom for all people!
