My students know that my Aunt Dot (second from left) was my favorite art teacher.
I have memories of having tea parties with Uncle Woody as Aunt Dot mixed beautiful colors
from tiny tubes of paint. The smell of oil paint always reminds me of that peaceful time from my early days.
My home style of teaching art is patterned after her influence.
I began teaching Kindergarten in 1973 after receiving an Education Degree
including Art and Kindergarten certification from NTSU.
After seven years of employment in both public and private schools, I took a break to start a family.
During that time and till now I have taught private art lessons to fellow teachers, friends,
and children of all ages. I returned to the private then public classroom as an art instructor in 1993 until 2003.
The last three years I have devoted to developing "Skin Tones - A World of Artists!"
I love the Art of the Impressionist and Post Impressionist.
Renoir, Monet, Degas, Cassatt and Van Gogh are a few atists that we study in class.
We have so much to learn from artists in history.
Amanda Dunbar, 2oo6 inductee into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame,
continues to amaze us as we follow her Journey in Art.
She is known for her beautiful artwork, charitable contributions and support of art programs.
My students were invited to hang their creations in Amanda's Gallerie as a one time event.
What an Honor!
This painting shows the scene viewed from that special park bench at Turtle Creek
where my husband proposed over 29 years ago.
This is a scene from our balcony on a visit to Mexico.
I love this painting. It shows the power and beauty of the sea.
The cabin in the woods is a perfect shelter for such a snowy day.
This is a sample of the work I draw with new students using a step by step method.
I demonstrate and they follow by drawing on their own paper. It is my desire to encourage all students
as they gain confidence in drawing and painting techniques to incorporate their own ideas and develop originality.
This still life represents a few of my favorite things including a picture of my grandmother, Mama Mac.
This is a charcoal drawing that depicts a man of advanced years and accumulated wisdom.
He reminds me of a special uncle in my life.
This painting of the Texas Hill Country commissioned by a client included her dog and home in the scene.
Max the dog, "No I am not a skunk."
We were blessed with our first grandchild on June 30th, 1999.
She continues to brighten our days like the painting suggests.
A simple but favorite painting of mine.
This was one of my dad's favorite paintings. He was a great fisherman.
Mixing poetry with collage, this artwork tells a story of aging gracefully.
I have found poetry to be another creative outlet within my art.

This acrylic painting tells a story of a bird taking flight only to encounter dark storm clouds
which obstruct sight of her path. Even though she does not see a way out, the light still shines
above, below, to her left and right. She only needs to fall away from the clouds
to see the Light was there all along, ready to brighten her journey.
I found this unpainted canvas in my aunt's closet after her passing over 15 years ago.
She could not work on it after my uncle's death. I took it and changed it completely
from a bluebonnet to a fall scene. The church sketch was kept the same. I finally finished it in 2007.
The Lion in this painting represents my dad during his last breath on earth.
It was painted after writing the poem "Breathless Freedom".
