Breathless Freedom
I watch you night after night
breathing slowly,
Just as you must have watched
my newborn breath.
Full circle the eyes have come.
It is my turn to watch and wait.
Amazed at the strength you show
within your frail state,
I am awake till dawn.
You linger on!
Till I watch one... two...three
breaths Forever Released.
Unseen Love, Welcomes your end.
Sonlight suddenly dances across my face.
"It is You", dear Daddy.
FREEDOM, You have finally Caressed!
Author's Comments:
"I lost my daddy on August
22, 2005. He spent more than one week in a coma after several years of
suffering. When I watched him breathe his last breath, I felt relief for the
end of his suffering. I will miss him dearly but wanted to release him. This
poem has served as both healing and therapeutic in my grieving process. The
Sonlight in the poem symbolizes Jesus coming to welcome daddy’s spirit into
heaven; so finally Daddy has Caressed EVERLASTING FREEDOM!
